Create your own sparkling crystals with the Heebie Jeebies Growing Crystals kit! Using the included coloured crystal powder, you can experiment with crystal growth and try different methods to see how your crystals form.
A crystal is a type of solid where the building blocks—atoms, molecules, or ions—are arranged in a precise, repeating pattern called a crystal lattice. This ordered structure often gives crystals their distinct geometric shapes with flat, defined faces. The study of how crystals form is known as crystallography, and the process of growing them is called crystallisation.
The word crystal comes from the Ancient Greek krustallos, meaning both “ice” and “rock crystal,” linked to the word korus, meaning “icy cold” or “frost.”
With this mini science kit, you can grow your own crystal right inside a test tube! Each set includes a test tube with a metal lid and coloured crystal powder. Sold individually; colours and styles may vary. Orders containing more than one will be assorted. A great Christmas gift for curious and clever kids!
Large natural crystals include snowflakes, diamonds, and table salt. Many everyday solids, like metals, rocks, ceramics, and ice, are actually polycrystals—made of many tiny crystals fused together. Other solids, like glass, wax, and many plastics, are amorphous, meaning they have no repeating internal structure.
When you dissolve the supplied crystal powder in water, it creates a supersaturated solution that slowly deposits excess molecules to form your crystal. To help preserve your finished crystal, you can coat it with clear nail polish.
A fun, hands-on science activity that supports problem-solving skills and fine motor development.
Sold Individually – Colour chosen at random.
